Rule #6: Celebrate the wins, big or small.

Whew, I thought we’d never make it to December, but here we are. 2020 has turned into the gift that keeps on giving and I think I can speak for most if not all of us when I say that we are TIRED. But then, I saw this quote recently that I can’t stop thinking about.

“I thought 2020 would be the year I got everything I wanted. Now, I know 2020 is the year I appreciate everything I have.”

A year ago, I was the one telling Lauren “2020 will be MY year”. I had all these visions and plans for myself, we all did. A year ago, I was taking everything that I had for granted. Like a true millennial, I was so focused on constantly striving for more. More of what? I’m not really sure.

This year has been BRUTAL, but this year has forced me to sit down and reflect for a second. I’m grateful for every paycheck that comes in and for every day that I wake up in good health. I’m grateful for the extended time that I’ve been able to spend with my family and for lazy mornings cuddling up with my dog.

Lauren and I have really tried to redirect our mindsets from instead of focusing on what we don’t have or what’s going wrong, to instead celebrate all of our wins in life, no matter how big or small it is.

For example, me? Not a huge fan of my birthday, it’s just another day. Lauren? She LIVES for birthdays; hers, mine, any random person to be honest. When my birthday came up in September, I had ZERO expectations.

Lauren went above and beyond to make my day special, to make sure I was surrounded by friends, good food, and drinks because she told me that we all deserved a day to be the center of the attention, the queen of the celebrations.

So now, we celebrate it all.

Our first days back in the gym coaching our athletes after months off? A WIN.

Hitting a new workout milestone (or just working out, period)? A WIN.

Finally learning that new tik tok dance? A DEFINITE WIN.

For these last 31 days of 2020, let’s celebrate all of the things that we’ve been able to accomplish. Let’s celebrate the way we’ve adapted and grown this year, the strength we’ve shown, and the support that we’ve shown our friends though the rough times. Let’s celebrate winning that go-kart race or that card game against your friends. Let’s go big and treat yourself on your birthday with all your favorite foods.

Then, let’s carry that same energy into next year.

  1. Definitely agree! Perspective is everything. I don’t have it in me today for an intense workout but I’m celebrating that I put my coat on and out here walking — a WIN 🙂

Thank you Babe Cave for this read, keep em coming!
